Heartsease is connecting so many of us who knit, I had a call from  lady recently who promised me a couple of dozen heart bags, all made by her, and as she said “decorated up nicely”. We got to talking, she is from Stoke-on-Trent, so the talk came round to meat and potato pie and pea dinners. A recipe was gladly given. I have a new friend, and will try the pie later, a good spoonful of mushy peas served with. I am astonished at the goodness of strangers, but less so as I meet the knitters of the world, crossing all divides and so honestly themselves.

heartsease…

Kids Company working with Ruth and Belinda, ICHF and the UKHKA.

Ruth and Belinda have dreamed of a way that knitters and makers can extend care to children they have never met by sending them special heart shaped bags; these can be keepers of hope and safety in the form of words, pictures of small treasures.

Join us at the ICHF shows where, with help from the UKHKA team, you can be part of this huge project, or send them directly to Ruth and Belinda.

Kids Company know that children recover with unrelenting love, and that this can happen practically with your help; distance care from people with kindness and skill.

Today, Kids Co. works with more than 17,000 in-need children by doing a variety of things from providing children with food and new clothing, to consoling children who have been through traumatic events and preparing them to successfully reintegrate into society.

Camila Batmanghelidjh  (founder of Kids Company)

Recently, London University research found that 91 percent of Kids Co. clients were reintegrated into education, 90 percent  of those with a criminal history had reduced their illegal activity and 94 percent had decreased their dependence on and use of drugs.

In 2007 Kids Company was awarded the Liberty and JUSTICE Human Rights Award. In 2010 we were selected as a ‘Child Poverty Champion’ by the End Child Poverty project for our success in enabling children to achieve their full potential.

lace sampler shawl, after many miles, is done and blocked…..

I really thought this would never end, like some allegory of life without death, it travelled with us to London, and back, to Edinburgh, and back, and then the border took the best part of a week, don’t let this put you off though, I got so fond of it by the end, I think I didn’t want it to end….ok, so it is complicated, but isn’t anything worth having? The actual shawl pattern is the same as the baby soft version, same needles, same gauge, same instructions, but the yarn is a full 800meters per 100, so you get a lot more air for your money, and floaty bits, and general comments that start aaaaaah…..when secretly you know that there are only four main increases and four patterns in the whole thing, this is not dishonest, it is just SMART, as our american cousins would say.   And, only 200g for all that lovely yarn-overing and ssk-ing…..lovely; pleasure extended. bigger than we ever thought after blocking....
